Halloween costumes are the best part of Halloween. Dress up and step into the shoes of a character or someone you like. Recently though the cost of costumes are becoming more expensive and especially college students are already struggling as it is. It’s time for some D.I.Y fun!
The concept of D.I.Y halloween costumes are starting to make a comeback and are perfect for college students. The brand Michaels posted a survey and partnered it with their customers searching data. According to Michaels Newsroom, “A recent Michaels survey and search data reveal a significant rise in D.I.Y Halloween costumes this year, with 60% of respondents planning to make their own.” In fact Michaels runs what they call a Knit & Sew Shop inside their stores where they offer supplies and online tutorials for any type of fun D.I.Y costumes or projects. Recently with Halloween coming up they have expanded their variety making the options even greater.
Research from Pinterest shows a number of trending D.I.Y costumes all varying from pop music icons to basic household names. One of the most popular pins shown is a deer costume. This deer costume also looks like one of the easiest D.I.Y’s to complete. A simple short brown skirt and brown top is the main outfit. The accessories include two simple items: a deer headband, two furry cuffs around the wrists. You can’t get much more simple than that. The makeup is just white dots around the eyes and down the nose. The makeup job could be done with simple face paint or any type of eyeshadow or eyeliner marker found in any makeup collection. This costume is super adorable and guaranteed to be a hit. The next hit costume is also very simple, a Heinz ketchup bottle. This look includes a basic outfit with little accessories. The outfit itself is customizable or budget friendly if you want to skip the arts and crafts. The shirt is a red t-shirt with the same images you would find on the front and back of an authentic bottle of Heinz ketchup. Then it’s a basic white tutu with white socks and red heels. The optional accessories include: a pair of red sunglasses and a red change purse. This look is simple and budget friendly, perfect for a fun halloween party with friends and family. The last trending look is Evelynn from the virtual K-Pop group K/DA. For the main outfit find a white crop top that gives off a shiny affect, and pair it with white metallic pants. The character’s accessories can be as simple as a chunky gold statement belt, and a purple braided wig. It’s also possible to avoid the wig with simple purple temporary hair dye and a braid cascading down the back.
