Noah Kahan’s “The Great Divide” Has reached the Top of the Charts

As the month of May has now rolled around fans are now raving about the release of Noah Kahan’s new album. According to Billboard 200, it is his first album to reach number one. Not only that, but his very first album, Stick Season, has climbed into top the 10, right sitting just beneath The Great Divide.

To get a better idea of why this album means so much to fans, I surveyed a couple of Noah lovers that are planning on attending his concert in St. Louis on August second. I wanted to know what makes this album different from his previous work, and whether there are certain elements that he uses more this time around. I also want to ask if the overall vibe and tone feel new, or if it still carries the same feeling that fans connected with before.

Based on both of their responses to the questions, his new album brings a deeper feeling to his audience. Isabella Amos would describe it as one that is “increasingly more reflective-which in some ways makes it even more depressing.” She continues and says, “Many of these songs are written about the negative views of oneself from the perspective of their family.

Interviewee Amelia Cook shares, “For me it helps to process some of the same root issues I my family and life that have shaped who I am.”

His songs, like Haircut and Willing and Able, tends to spark emotion in individuals. Amos explains, the lyric that says, “but at least I’ve got soul still, even if I’m in a bad place.” is a true testament to the hope someone can have even in the darkest point in their life.”

Cook explains, “I very much relate to his longing of how it was and of how it could be,” which seems to be and underlying theme in the entirety of his new album.

To add to that point, Amos shares, “this album heavily focuses on the self-imagery of a person from the perspectives of family members and friends. There’s a lot of mention of self-depletion but recognizing the growth opportunities that can come from those moments.
