The Busyhead Project: A Mental Health Organization Created by Noah Kahan to Help Those Struggling

By Sarah Baase

Following my previous article about Noah Kahan’s upcoming album release that has fans going crazy, Kahan also has a non-profit organization aimed at ending the stigma around mental health and improving access to resources for those who need them…

Kahan is extremely open about what he has gone through and what he has battled with pertaining to mental health. He wanted to use his career to make a lasting impact on the world. According to Noah, it will be the proudest achievement of his career. The Busy Head Project has raised over 6.6 million dollars to support one hundred and seventy community-based organizations across the world.

According to The Rampage, Dedicated to Quality and Integrity in Journalism, author Ella Paul published an article in 2023 explaining how the Busyhead project is so different from the angles many other artists choose to take when recognizing issues in the world and creating a public awareness about those things. She states, “Celebrities have an enormous platform to speak out about important issues faced by society. Unfortunately, many choose not to confront these pressing issues because of how controversial they are. To combat this trend, Kahan, an increasingly prolific alternative indie/folk artist in the music industry, is actively working to destigmatize mental health.”

Bella Amos, an interviewee from my most recent article on Kahan explains that Noah opens up about his struggles with losing his friend, “he wrote many songs almost all focused around mental health-especially call your mom. It’s basically begging someone to stay alive.”

Talking about his own songs, like “False Confidence,” “Mess,” “Hurt Somebody,” and “Busyhead,” Kahan shares that these songs explain how it can be so easy to “lose yourself inside your busyhead” which explains where he gets the name from.

Just like Ella Paul beautifully states, Kahan is not worried about maintaining his image for the public and for the media. He is far more concerned about being authentic with his fans about real life struggles, and showing them that it is okay to not feel okay all of the time. That is why Noah is different. That is why he stands out from the rest as a legitimate advocate for mental health.
