Christmas in the Air: Festive Events In Buffalo and Canada

The snow is falling hard in Buffalo and everyone is ready to go out and experience some of the holiday festivities the city has to offer. Whether you are from here or not you can enjoy the seasonal festivities this winter such as ice skating, holiday tours, movies and more!

Some of the events happening this week include the Larkin Square Holiday Stroll, Holiday markets, and seeing The Nutcracker at Sheas. 

Public ice skating at the Buffalo Waterfront just opened for the 2025-26 season with hours of operation from November 21-February 21. Ages 5 and under are free, Children above 13 are $8 and skate rentals are $6. 

If you’re looking for a family fun activity especially for little kids, you can go visit Santa at the galleria mall or the botanical gardens! Buffalo is packed with experiences that families can enjoy together. 

Just across the border in Niagara Ontario they offer a bunch of magical Christmas activities such as Festival of lights, fireworks, winery events and more!

Canada has a large festival of lights with wonderful displays along the Niagara Parkway and Dufferin Islands. At night the falls themselves are lit up in festive colors as part of the festival. You can explore holiday markets, winery tours, and festive fundraisers at local vineyards. 

This season if you or your family want to give back to the community there are many fundraising opportunities across Buffalo, some include Variety The Children’s Charity Fundraiser, Holiday Bash Fundraiser, Holiday Hospice, and more!

Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you have to be cold! Buffalo offers many indoor holiday activities as well that can be more enjoyable! The Buffalo Botanical Gardens hosts its amazing Poinsettia show that fills its glass dome with many bright colors, floral displays, and warm holiday cheer. The Buffalo Zoo also adds to the excitement with Zoo lights, seasonal treats, and visits with Santa. These types of events help you enjoy and embrace the magic of the season but also provide an escape from the chill.  

For adults looking to celebrate the season without the kids, Buffalo offers a wide selection of festive events that are designed for just grown ups! Holiday Pop up bars and local breweries host wine tasting nights perfect for a date or just a get together with friends! Adults can enjoy romantic music and winter experiences such as ice skating at canalside or dinners at restaurants!
