A series of ICE deportations are causing a stir amongst religious groups and political leaders with 27 groups suing the Trump administration policy in response to the immigration enforcement policy.
The religious groups expressed ethical concerns, pursuing the prohibition of Immigration enforcement in places of worship and religious practice. Unless proper action has been taken to provide a warrant. The religious freedom act of 1993 was violated according to sources which protects the interest of religious freedom as churches were receiving immigrants for worship.
Additionally, in New York City, the Trump administrations newly appointed attorney general Pam Bondi has filed a lawsuit against New York State governor Kathy Hochul and Marc Shroeder commissioner of the New York department of motor vehicles about the green light law which may allow immigrants to obtain a drivers license legally. The green light law was approved in order provide drivers with on road and travel safety.
The accusation against New York State stems from a provision within the green light law which states “When the federal immigration agency request information on immigration/ immigrants the Commisioner of the Deparment of motor vehicle’s returns the requested information.”
Proposed Trump administration policies include deportation of migrants, fortifying the U.S Mexico border, Halting the processing of migrants and asylum seekers, canceling existing migrant appointments, the construction of migrant shelters in Cuba and expanding ICE and carrying out raids.
The defense department has assisted in deportation, providing military aircraft’s for deportation of 5,000 immigrants detained in Texas on 1/25/25, and by fortifying the US Mexico border with 1500 active troops on the United States southern border with nearly 4000 troops total active within the southern border. The troops tasked with constructing barriers with the purpose of preventing entry into the US.”border enforcement missions” developing officials have said no details have been announced.
Other actions include halting the processing of migrants and asylum seekers. Asylum seekers are turned away and suspended entry for undocumented migrants. Prior to the executive order migrants were permitted to receive assistance from border officials and Asylums.
Expanding ICE raids via executive orders have allowed a once enforced policy which prohibits immigration raids in places such as schools and churches have been overridden with ICE conducting raids in such locations.
